Pride & Achievement
Music
Yangebup has an excellent Classroom Music program, featuring a unique application of Kodály and Orff concepts of Music Education. Music is offered as a specialist program for students in Years 1-6. We have a wide range of tuned and un-tuned musical instruments for the children to play. The music program is aimed at making music enjoyable and engaging whilst teaching the basics to enhance and express creativity. Students have the opportunity to learn all aspects of music for an hour each week for one semester per year.

Music knowledge and skills ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students:
-
develop the confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful, skilful and informed musicians
-
develop skills and techniques to actively listen, analyse, improvise, compose and perform music
-
interpret and apply the elements of music, engaging with a diverse array of musical experiences as performers and audience members
-
develop aesthetic appreciation and respect for their own and others' music practices and traditions across different times, places, cultures and contexts.
-
Participating in music learning
School Choir
Students in Years 4-6 are able to join the school choir, focusing to learn a large repertoire of songs in part, in harmony and include movement. The choir is given several opportunities during the year to perform at a range of in school and community events. Being part of a choir can have many health benefits, gives us a sense of belonging while having fun. A highlight in the past has been performing at the Massed Choir Festival and at One Big Voice.
Instrumental Music
Of particular note is the Department of Education Instrumental Music School Services program (IMSS) which provides an enriched, instrumental instruction for students. At Yangebup Primary School, the IMSS program provides extension learning opportunities for selected students in Years 5 and 6, and is aimed at those students who demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for music and are prepared to commit to the ongoing lessons and extra-curricular activities. The program is based on research which clearly identifies the benefits of instrumental music instruction. The program extends students' knowledge, understanding and skills, and assists in the development of a range of personal and social outcomes. Students receive a 30-minute lesson in small groups on a weekly basis during school time. This specialist program currently offers Classical Guitar.
